How to use Floome?
Floome is very easy to use:
1.Launch the Floome application on your smartphone
2.Rotate the mouthpiece
3.Plug Floome into the headphone port.
4.Follow the instructions from the application. You are now ready to measure your blood alcohol level, i.e. your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content).
Don’t forget: the measurements will be more accurate if you take the test at least 20 minutes after your last alcoholic drink.
What does BAC mean?
BAC stands for Blood Alcohol Content, it is the concentration of alcohol in your blood. High BAC levels can severely damage your physical and mental health, impair motor coordination, the ability to perform tasks involving spatial perception, and good judgement. Drink drive limits are set at specific BAC levels that vary from country to country. If you violate such limits you might incur civil, criminal and/or administrative charges provided for by the law of these countries.
Is Floome compatible with my smartphone?
Floome has been designed to be compatible with the majority of existing smartphones. You just plug it into the headphone port like you would do with your earphones.
Floome is compatible with all devices that run iOS7 or later,
Android 4.2.2 or later, Windows Phone 8.1 or later. We do not guarantee the compatibility of Floome with other devices, nevertheless our R&D department will always be at your disposal to help you. Does the application collect personal data?
To function accurately, Floome links your data (i.e.: your physical data) and the results of BAC measurements to your Floome account. We consider your privacy to be of primary importance.
Are Floome's measurements accurate?
Yes. Thanks to its technology, Floome will provide you with accurate estimates if compared to similar products on the market. Indeed, Floome has a margin of error of ±0.075 g/L (BAC ratio: 0-1g/L, the accuracy of the product is measured through bench tests whose protocols are kept by 2045 Tech). Therefore, we suggest you to read the Terms & Conditions carefully to know more about technical issues and physical conditions that may affect the device’s performance.
Can I drive if the BAC levels are below legal limits?
The application helps you compare your BAC levels with the limits set by the law, nevertheless this by no means replaces your good judgement on your ability to operate any sort of vehicle. It’s only you, not your Floome, who decides whether to drive or not, so be responsible: don’t drink and drive.
What is the difference between a semiconductor breathalyser and a fuel cell breathalyser?
The sensors of semiconductor breathalysers detect the presence of alcohol, not the alcohol concentration in your blood. Moreover, semiconductor breathalysers are more sensitive to a wide range of volatile compounds (such as those contained in onions, cigarettes, nail varnish removers, etc.) affecting the accuracy of measurements. In contrast, fuel cell breathalysers (like Floome) detect alcohol by burning alcohol molecules with oxygen, generating a specific amount of current for every ethanol molecule detected. This makes fuel cell breathalysers the only professional and reliable ethanol detector in existence.
Is it true that Floome works without batteries?
Floome’s technology allows you to take about 5000 tests powered with one single watch battery. With such a long lifespan, you will never need to worry about changing the battery.
Can my friends try my Floome, or is it for personal use only?
Floome uses the physical data you enter about yourself in order to enhance the accuracy of BAC measurements and provide you with personalised feedback. So, when letting your friends use your Floome, please consider that the results shown can be less accurate. For further info, please consult the
Where should I store Floome?
Preserving the breathalyser’s sensor is of critical importance in order to allow Floome to perform very accurate tests. To preserve the sensor, Floome must be stored in a dry place with temperatures between 0°C and 50°C and it should be used in environments with temperatures between 10°C and 40°C.
Do I have to protect Floome from contact with liquids? If so, why?
Yes. Always keep Floome away from water or other liquids as it contains electrical circuits, which could be damaged. Also, if wet, the sensor may get miscalibrated, thus providing you with inaccurate measurements.
I heard that breathalysers usually need to be re-calibrated after a certain number of tests.
Is this true for Floome too?
Yes, it is. To always get the best performance and most accurate estimates from your Floome, re-calibrate it after about 500 tests, and in any case no later than 12 months from the first use.
1. You will receive an e-mail and/or a notification via the application, suggesting you to go to www.floome.com in order to take advantage of the re-calibration service.
2. The re-calibration service is fast and user-friendly: an e-mail will be sent to your address with a re-calibration voucher containing the address of the nearest re-calibration centre together with a unique code number.
3. Once you receive the voucher, print it out and put it in the parcel containing the device. Then send the device via standard mail or express courier to the address suggested on the voucher. Make sure you pack the device safely, in order to avoid any damage during shipping. We recommend careful consideration in the selection of delivery method, and associated insurance coverage.
4. The re-calibration procedure will take about one week from receipt of the device. Your Floome will then be sent back to you via ordinary mail or express courier.
